See the giant pandas at Edinburgh Zoo
Edinburgh
Zoo has become home to two giant pandas, the
first to live in the UK in 17 years. The new star attractions, Tian
Tian and Yang Guang, are on show to the public now.
Tian Tian, the female panda, is known for
being mischievous and fussy when it comes to bamboo, while the male
panda Yang Guang is described as a good-natured gentle giant. These
charismatic creatures will reside in separate state-of-the art
enclosures. Pandas are solitary animals, except during the mating
season when it is hoped that this pair will breed and produce the
first panda cub to be born in Scotland.
You will need a Panda Viewing ticket to see
Tian Tian and Yang Guang. These tickets are available at no extra
cost to the normal admission charges but must be pre-booked online
when purchasing zoo entry tickets. They cannot be booked separately
or at a later date. Time ticketing will be in operation and
visitors will be able to select a time for visiting in half-hourly
slots, subject to availability. Tickets must be booked by midnight
before the day of your intended visit. Pre-booking is essential to
guarantee viewing. So book your
tickets now
Tickets will be made available at the zoo on
the day itself and will be allocated on a first come, first served
basis. However, to guarantee viewing pre-booking
is strongly recommended.
There are many more magical animal attractions
at Edinburgh Zoo. It is also home to the only koalas in the UK -
two males called Yabbra and Goonaroo. Each day the koalas are fed
five different species of eucalyptus. As eucalyptus leaves provide
very little energy, koalas spend around 21 hours asleep!
Find out if you are as agile as the monkeys in
the zoo as you tackle the UK’s only
Sky Trail®. Strap yourself into a harness and have fun
as you swing from trees and test your balance walking across ropes
4 meters above the ground. The unique Sky Trail® experience is
available on weekends throughout winter, weather permitting.
There’s always something going on at Edinburgh Zoo. See their
daily events schedule for up-to-date info.
