Winter white lighthouse holidays
For a truly unique holiday experience this winter, stay in your
own personal lighthouse where you can admire some of Shetland's
most stunning scenery.
There are three lighthouses available in Sumburgh, Bressay and
Eshaness, offering quality self-catering accommodation and
unparalleled views.
Bressay Lighthouse can be reached via a five
minute ferry crossing from Lerwick. This
combines spectacular views and wildlife spotting opportunities
with historical sights.
Travelling to Shetland's North Mainland, the coastal landscapes
surrounding
Eshaness Lighthouse are perhaps the most spectacular
in Shetland. With cliffs of huge volcanic rock dominating the
coastline, the remote and wild beauty of this area is a haven
for walkers.
Sumburgh Lighthouse, perched high on the headland
above the RSPB reserve Sumburgh Head, is currently undergoing a
huge redevelopment project to improve access to the
site and its facilities. Though you won't be able to stay
over in Shetland's oldest lighthouse this winter, keep a close eye
on the website and be sure to be one of the first to stay in
the newly refusrbished self-catering facility when it reopens.
