Incredible winter snow sports in the
Highlands
The Highlands is the place to come for an
incredible variety of winter sports with five snowsports centres to choose
from, each with their own surprise, and offering activities such as
skiing, sledging, snowboarding and more, for all levels of
ability.
The
Lecht, close to the border of Aberdeen City and Shire,
is an ideal centre for those hitting the slopes for the first time
while more experienced skiers can try out the black-graded race
piste. When conditions allow, the Lecht is also able to create a
half-pipe for snowboarders and freestyle skiers. You’ll be
surprised to see thrill seekers dashing down the mountainside in an
oversized rubber ring - known as tubing, this is just one of the
other activities on offer at the Lecht.
CairnGorm
Mountain boasts Scotland’s highest restaurant and only
funicular railway. Be rewarded with an impressive journey up the
mountainside with stunning views before dashing back down.
Glencoe
is equally stunning and popular with the more daredevil of
snowboarders and skiers - see if you can master the astounding Fly
Paper black run.
The Nevis
Range is ideal for all levels with both challenging
black runs and a plastic slope and good instruction for beginners.
Glenshee,
close to the Perthshire border, is the largest resort in the UK
offering 40 kms of pisted snow over 36 runs. Extensive snowmaking
facilities means the centre is often open for longer.
Serious challengers will relish a snowholing
expedition with Mountain
Innovations. Trek through a wintry wilderness and on
the second day, begin the snowhole dig. Wake up on the third
day within this incredible tranquil setting; this is an experience
like no other.
Wherever you choose to go for some on-piste
action, you can be sure of magnificent snow-capped scenery and a
warm café close at hand to relax. Find out more about snowsports in Scotland.
