Experience Robert Burns Country this winter
In the village of Alloway visitors can step
back more than 250 years and find out some surprising secrets about
the man himself. Did you know that for the seven years prior to his
death Burns had the unpopular and risky job of exciseman, taking
taxes on goods such as malted grain, alcohol, paper and soap?
Enter the world of Scotland’s National Bard
at the Robert Burns Birthplace
Museum and discover a fascinating showcase of the
world’s most important Burns collection in a stunning new
setting. You’ll even find the pistols he carried as an
exciseman!
See original manuscripts of Robert Burns'
greatest works, historic artefacts and even Burns’ personal
belongings, that give an insight into the life of one of Scotland’s
best loved literary heroes. Nearby, walk in the footsteps of Tam o'
Shanter to the haunted Auld Kirk and Brig o' Doon, and visit the
historic Burns Monument and beautiful commemorative gardens. Take
the poets path from the museum and arrive at Burns Cottage, his
birthplace and home.
On site there are also two fabulous retail
areas offering a superb range of unique gifts and souvenirs
specific to the site, as well as a range of books and other
merchandise. Enjoy a light bite in the excellent café which looks
out onto the colorful surrounding gardens. This is a great day out
for the whole family with hands-on exhibits, an outdoor play area
and special events taking place throughout the year.
January 25th marks the anniversary of the
death of Robert Burns and is commemorated by the traditional Burns
Supper across the country with some great events taking place to
