Get along to the 2012 Glasgow Film Festival
The eighth Glasgow Film
Festival runs from Thursday 16 February to Sunday 26
February and is an absolute must for film lovers. The UK’s
fastest-growing film event showcases the best of British
and international cinema, with this year’s surprises including
FrightFest and a celebration of Gene Kelly.
The hub of the festival is the Glasgow Film
Theatre, an atmospheric art deco building and a Glasgow
institution. Events take place at venues across the city and, as
well as screenings, there are opportunities
to attend lectures, discussions, workshops and meet filmmakers
from Scotland and around the world.
Among this year’s festival highlights is
Gene Kelly: Strictly Song and Dance,
a special centenary salute to the movie legend
(Kelly was born in Pittsburgh in 1912). Enjoy
screenings of all the Kelly greats and some of the finest musicals
ever to grace the silver screen. See Singin’ in the Rain
and An American in Paris in all their glory in
Glasgow. After catching Kelly's classics, put on your dancing
shoes and head to the Gene Kelly Ceilidh.
Other programme highlights include:
- FrightFest, the UK’s premier fantasy and
horror film festival and perfect for fans of gore
- Best of British, where a selection of old
masters and new voices rub shoulders in the best of home-grown
cinema
- Fashion in Film, a mini-season of fabulous
films and trend-setting events that celebrate fashion in film and
document the world of fashion itself
