Enjoy a city break in Aberdeen
In the north east pocket of Scotland, you
can expect rolling hills, mountainous regions and castles galore
but you’ll also be surprised to find a lively and dynamic city at
the heart of this region. Aberdeen is known as The Granite City,
famed for its unique granite architecture, and more recently
emerging as an ideal city for a great cultural break.
The Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference
Centre (AECC) welcomes the biggest names in the
entertainment industry. This winter, look out for great music from
The Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian and Tinie Tempah, and the funniest
comedians on the circuit - Ed Byrne, Jason Manford and Russell
Howard. Likewise, the Music
Hall boasts top rock and pop acts as well as regular
performances by classical orchestras both national and
international.
For something new and vibrant, the place to
head is The
Lemon Tree which hosts a lively programme of music,
theatre, dance, literature and comedy. Something of a local
institution, visitors and local people return here again and
again.
Don’t miss the impressive programme of drama
at His
Majesty's Theatre, the largest theatre in north-east
Scotland, which is regularly visited by Scotland's national arts
companies.
For those in need of some retail therapy,
Aberdeen is the perfect place for a shopping spree with everything
within walking distance of the city centre. You’ll find high street
names in the recently unveiled shopping centre, Union
Square, and small clusters of independent boutiques in
the smaller West End streets.
Whilst in Aberdeen, take advantage of free
entry into
Aberdeen Art Gallery, the Maritime
Museum and the fascinating
Provost Skene’s House. All are located within
the city centre and no distance at all from the shops. Pop into the
beautiful art gallery shop or grab some refreshments at each of the
venue cafes.
