Michelin star dining in Scotland
Scotland is renowned for its fabulous natural
larder and you can experience the country’s amazing produce at some
of its world-renowned eateries. Treat yourself with Scotland’s fine
dining experiences and eat at one of the country’s 16 Michelin-star
restaurants.
Three more Scottish restaurants were awarded
coveted Michelin stars in the 2012 Michelin Guide. The additions
mean that Edinburgh is now the city with the second highest number
of Michelin-starred restaurants outside London, along with Dublin,
with five establishments in the guide.
The
Kitchin is one of Edinburgh’s excellent
Michelin-starred restaurants, set up by Tom and Michaela Kitchin.
Here you can enjoy some of Scotland’s finest produce and celebrate
the seasons from wonderful fresh fruit and vegetables to delicious
hand-dived scallops, duck and lamb.
The Kitchin’s sister restaurant,
Castle
Terrace, added the fifth Michelin star to Edinburgh’s
collection at the end of last year after only being open since July
2010. Chef Patron Dominic Jack showcases Scotland’s excellent
produce in his outstanding seasonal dishes with both restaurants
following the ethos ‘From Nature to Plate’.
Martin Wishart won Edinburgh its first
Michelin star in 1999 with his self-named restaurant and has
recently won a second star for his eatery in Cameron House near
Glasgow. Enjoy delectable food created by Head Chef Stewart Boyles
in stunning surroundings at
Martin Wishart at Loch Lomond.
Fine dining is not confined to Scotland’s main
cities, it can also be found further afield. Scotland’s third
addition to the Michelin Guide 2012 is Glenapp
Castle in Ballantrae, Ayrshire. The breathtaking
luxury castle hotel is home to Head Chef Adam Stokes and his
award-winning cuisine. His contemporary take on traditional dishes
by adding inventive twists creates a stunning six course menu
featuring the best seasonal, local produce such as freshly-caught
mackerel with seaweed crackers and scallops with crackling and
grapefruit.
With such a fantastic selection of fine dining
establishments across Scotland, treat yourself to tantalising
cuisine in some of the country’s most memorable settings.
