Scotland’s unique whisky distilleries

Uncover the secrets of whisky making with unique behind-the-scenes tours of Scotland's renowned distilleries. Learn about the rich heritage of Scotland's famous national drink and enjoy sampling drams from Scotland’s whisky regions to appreciate the complexity of flavours present in whisky. Discover some truly unique distilleries along the way.

The Highlands is the best-known whisky region in Scotland and is often referred to as ‘Whisky Country’ as it is home to so many distilleries. Spend an afternoon at Dalwhinnie Distillery, one of the highest distilleries in the country standing at over 1,000 ft, which is easily recognised thanks to its distinctive pagoda roof.

Speyside is home to more than half of all of Scotland’s malt whisky distilleries and the world’s only Malt Whisky Trail. Sample the world’s first fully certified organic malt whisky at Benromach, one of Scotland’s smallest distilleries. You can take a trip to Scotland’s smallest distillery in Perthshire - the Edradour Distillery near Pitlochry which is run by a team of three devoted distillers.

Discover the distinct peaty characteristics of Islay’s whiskies and take a look around some of the island’s eight single malt whisky distilleries. Sample a dram that is truly Islay from barley to bottle thanks to the rare on-site bottling hall at the Bruichladdich Distillery - affectionately known as ‘the Laddie’.

Campbeltown used to be home to a staggering 30 distilleries but now just three remain -Springbank, Glen Gyle and Glen Scotia (not open to the public). Take a tour of the oldest independent family-owned distillery in Scotland, Springbank which was founded in 1828 and produces subtly smoked malts.

If peaty, smoky drams are not to your taste, savour the lighter characteristics of the Lowland Malts, traditionally known as the ‘Lowland Ladies’. Enjoy a visit to Scotland’s most southerly distillery in Galloway, Bladnoch Distillery, which has been producing its fantastic lowland malt since 1817.
