Watch the experts then sample unique flavours

With more than 42 distilleries to visit, several wineries and an excellent selection of breweries, Scotland is the perfect place to watch the experts at work before sampling their unique beverages.

Cairn O’Mhor Winery is based in a charming spot in Perthshire and you can take a tour to learn all about the production of unique wines made from berries, leaves and flowers - natural ingredients collected from the surrounding countryside. A fascinating experience, you will be greeted by a knowledgeable guide before seeing the machinery in action, finally rounding things off with a tasting session.

Scotland has a proud history of beer and ale making so why not find out more? The Orkney Brewery is renowned for its infamously-named Skull Splitter ale. Named after Thorfinn Einarsson, who was the 7th Viking Earl of Orkney, this is their strongest beer at 8.5%abv and has a deceptively smooth, light character. Find out more about Scotland's brewing history here.

Whisky is a national drink which has become synonymous with Scotland and can be split into four distinct areas - Highlands, Islands, Lowlands and Speyside - each producing unique flavours.

Dalwhinnie Single Malt Whisky is produced in the Highlands in Scotland's highest distillery at 326 metres. It is a smooth, sweet whisky that is great for people new to the spirit.

Speyside is home to over half of Scotland's distilleries and famous names such as Glenfiddich and The Glenlivet can be found on the Malt Whisky Trail, the only whisky trail in the world.

Island whiskies tend to be the most smoky and peaty with Laphroaig considered one of the richest in flavour. Laphroaig is made on the the Isle of Islay which boasts eight distilleries to choose from.

Glenkinchie is made in one of the last operating distilleries in lowland Scotland, just 15 miles from Edinburgh. Golden in colour with light, malty flavours it is a great example of a classic Lowland Malt.

You can even create your own, personalised bottle of malt whisky at Glengoyne Distillery near Glasgow. After taking a fascinating distillery tour you can fill your own bottle from one of the casks and cork it yourself completing the unique experience with a bespoke label featuring your signature and the bottle number - a truly memorable experience.
