See Scotland your way with some great trails

Scotland’s Great Trails give you the best off-road opportunities to explore our fantastic countryside. You can walk or ride them. Take the family to tick off a bite-sized chunk or do a bit each weekend and bag the whole route together. Most importantly they are an enjoyable way of getting some free exercise at any time of year!

Isn’t it time you discovered more of our great country?

Visit the websites below to find out more about the individual routes.

From source to sea, follow some of our big rivers to their coastline. Breathe in the heady summer scents, picnic on the river banks and enjoy the opportunities to dip those hot, weary toes!

If you’re fond of sand dunes and salty air…savour these trails with your favourite ice cream. We can guarantee sand and seabirds along these coastal paths and you can enjoy them in the warm Scottish sunshine during the summer months.

Take a journey back in time on historical trails. You can follow in the footsteps of St Cuthbert or imagine the Gregorian singing in the Borders' Abbeys.

Are you a transport and travel fan? Enjoy several canal towpaths, The Falkirk Wheel and some of our old railway lines with these easy-going paths.

If it’s wild and wonderful you want, these trails have got it. Pack your sack and be prepared to experience some of Scotland’s best dramatic mountain and loch scenery.

All of these routes are physically accessible yet close to home for most of us and offer the best way-marked and scenic longer routes in Scotland. You’ll be unlucky not to encounter some of our wildlife on your travels and the routes are ideal for taking the family off-road safely. Where will Scotland’s great trails take you?
