Find golfing perfection in Perthshire
Perthshire is ideal for a relaxing golf break.
This beautiful region lies in the heart of Scotland and, like
neighbouring Fife, has a proud golfing heritage.
World-famous Gleneagles
has three championship courses, the King’s, the Queen’s and the PGA
Centenary. The latter is to host the 2014 Ryder Cup, with Europe
and America due to battle it out on the Jack Nicklaus designed
course as the event comes to Scotland for the first time in over 40
years.
Perthshire has many other golfing treats.
Crieff
Ferntower - a few miles from Gleneagles - is one of
Scotland’s finest inland courses and was designed by James Braid,
who created both the King’s and Queen’s courses at Gleneagles.
Kinross
has two fine parkland venues, The Montgomery and The Bruce, both
set next to lovely Loch Leven. Then there is Blairgowrie with its
two championship courses: The Rosemount (designed by Alistair
McKenzie, creator of Augusta National) and the Lansdowne.
Perth itself has some quality courses.
Craigie Hill
features one of the toughest holes in Britain while the
King James VI
course is a real novelty. It is the only self-contained river
island golf course in Britain, reached only via a walkway on the
railway bridge that spans the Tay.
Perthshire’s charming 9-hole courses are often
the focal point of village life and they are ideal for families.
Dalmunzie
is one of Britain’s highest courses and throws in a castle for good
measure, while Killin by
Loch Tay has one of the most scenic closing holes in all of
Scotland.
